Welcome to Weaving Well-being

Weaving Well-Being is a set of lessons and resources designed to promote positive mental health and well-being in primary school children. The lessons are grounded in evidence based interventions from the rapidly expanding field of Positive Psychology. This is the study of optimal human mental health, and sets out to explore and promote factors which allow individuals and communities to thrive and flourish.

These lessons are needed more than ever for our children. Our children today face a wide range of challenges which can have a significant impact on their well-being. A recent H.S.E. report showed a 11% increase in the demand for mental health services for children in the last year alone. Unfortunately this is also leading to longer waiting time for any treatment - 42% of children and adolescents have been waiting over 6 months for access to their services.

Our vision for the future is that children will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and resources to enable them to flourish and to deal effectively with the various challenges they face. The interventions we use have been shown to enhance well-being and reduce the occurrence of many mental health conditions. The DES, in their 2015 publication (Guidelines For Mental Health Promotion, Well-Being in Primary Schools) recognises the need to address the well-being and mental health of our children through the SPHE curriculum.

Our programme which is both child centred and teacher friendly has been designed by Fiona Forman and Mick Rock. Fiona is an experience primary school teacher, who is currently completing a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and Mick is a renowed motivational speaker and trainer who specialises in this area. He has just completed his Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and is one of the very few practitioners in this field in Ireland.
